A Brief Report

Dr. George M Chandy, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Dr. George M Chandy, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (Former Director of Christian Medical College & Hospital at Vellore, South India) who is a Haggai Alumnus and a faculty for Leadership, receiving the most prestigious award for a Medical Doctor in India, the Dr. B. C. Roy Award from Dr. Prathibha Patil, President of our Country.

Dr. Chandy through inspirational, transforming, servant leadership, championed the cause of the economically disadvantaged, the needy and the marginalized and introduced novel, cost-effective strategies that are a model for healthcare ventures in the country. Need-based infrastructure development, investment in appropriate technology and introduction of IT
based solution through Health information systems were some of the exciting new initiatives introduced by Dr. Chandy. In the field of Hepatology, Dr. Chandy heads the ICMR Advanced Centre for Liver Diseases and is in charge of a nationwide programme for the prevention of Hepatitis B infection.
