A Report on the Special Leadership Seminar
for Doctors (SLSD) held at the Christian Medical College,
Vellore
The second Special Leadership Seminar for Doctors (SLSD)
at Vellore held from 5-9 August 2006 was attended by 25
senior staff of the Christian Medical College, Vellore was
another story of a breakthrough success. The seminar was
the initiative of HI Alumnus and Director of the CMC Dr.
George Chandi and the HIAA, Vellore. The topics covered
in the seminar were Biblical Basis for Missions, Leadership,
Stewardship, The Leader and Integrity, Communications for
Evangelism, Life Mission & Goal Setting and Personal
Witnessing.
The Emerging Vision
Vellore Christian Medical College & Hospital, popularly
known as "CMC", is one of those unique health care
organizations in India and entire Asia. At its heart is the
story of the founder, Ida S. Scudder, and the thousands of
dedicated men and women who have followed the call of the
Master at the CMC. Since Ida Scudder in 1900 the organization
has grown to a gigantic size and almost all the latest and
high-tech medical treatments are conducted in the CMC. In
Aunt Ida’s words we can capture the ultimate vision
of the institute, ‘We are not building a medical
college; we are building the Kingdom of God.’ The
year 2005 was pitched towards an ambitious goal of becoming
the best in India and in 2006 to be best in Asia. The ultimate
Goal of CMC is to become the best in the World by 2007 and
beyond.
A Glimpse of an Average Day at the CMC
Here is an example of the daily activity that goes on there
today: 3,000-4000 outpatients per day from all over India
and abroad, 1,000-1200 inpatients, 40-50 operations, 22 clinics,
and 20-30 births. Ten Bible Classes are held each day and
a Chaplain visits 380 patients. But, the story of CMC is not
merely growth, high tech surgery, and medical degrees. It
is the story of people sharing their time and talents in a
loving and caring manner in response to Christ's command.
