A brief account on the Special Leadership
Seminar for Doctors of CMC Vellore
The Goal for excellence:
Vellore Christian Medical College & Hospital, popularly
known as "CMC", is one of those unique health care
organizations in India and entire Asia. At its heart is the
story of the founder, Ida S. Scudder, and the thousands of dedicated
men and women who have followed the call of the Master at the
CMC. Since Ida Scudder in 1900 the organization has grown to
a gigantic size and almost all the latest and high-tech medical
treatments are conducted in the CMC.
Here is an example of the daily activity that goes on there
today: 2,000 outpatients per day from all over India and abroad,
1,000 inpatients, 43 operations, 22 clinics, and 16 births.
Ten Bible Classes are held each day and a Chaplain visits
380 patients. But, the story of CMC is not merely growth,
high tech surgery, and medical degrees. It is the story of
people sharing their time and talents in a loving and caring
manner in response to Christ's command. In the words of Ida
Scudder, "we thank God for the way He has led us
in the past and look forward to an even greater future."
The CMC has been conducting several people development programs
in the past keeping this end in mind, and in addition the
management of CMC Vellore was enthused to organized a Special
Leadership seminar for the Top group of the organization.
The seminar was the vision of the CEO of the CMC Vellore Dr.
George Chandy and Dr. (Mrs.) Latha Paul.
The People:
Thirty-six high profile participants ranging from administrators,
Heads of the Departments, Professors to senior Faculty Members
from CMC Vellore attended the HI Leadership Seminar held from
21st to 25th Jan.2006 at the CHTC auditorium, CMC Vellore.
The seminar made a deep impact on the lives of the participants
and several of them have expressed their desire and determination
to make a difference in the Hospital and ministry.
The Agents of Transformation:
The topics covered in the seminar were Biblical Basis for
Missions, Christian Leadership, Stewradship, Integrity, Communications,
Paradigm Shift and Personal Witnessing. One of the participants
and an HOD in his feedback overwhelmingly said, “The
seminar gave me an opportunity to look at myself and has impacted
me to live for others and I will live by the Word of God.”
Our Coordinator (hon), Dr.Ezhil Cristadoss in his report
mentioned that the seminar had a formidable faculty line-up,
which was a prime factor in ensuing such a high quality seminar.
Mr. Paul Balsundaram, Dr. George Chandy, Mr. Valentine Davidar,
Dr. Roy Verghese, Mr. Sam Rufus, Prof. Jeyakar Chellaraj and
Mr. R. Rajkumar facilitated the participants. Our Resident
Coordinator Mr. Sunny Philip did a wonderful job in anchoring
the seminar and the ambience of the seminar geared towards
higher learning. On the whole the seminar turned out to be
an eye opener for healthcare professionals, which will certainly
prove to be a blessing to the thousands of patients who go
through the gates of CMC.
