To envision the future of the Haggai Institute
ministry in India, a Summit of the Core Group of HI National
Ministry was held in Shillong on 9th of December 2005. A day-
long deliberation on all aspects of the ministry resulted
in the adoption of a declaration to be called ‘The
Shillong Declaration of the HI Ministry in India’,
which declares as follows:
The record socio-economic growth of India has resulted
in a burgeoning middle class and the emergence of Urban
Centers as the focus of power and influence. We therefore
recognize that for the ministry of HI India to impact the
nation, ‘market place leaders’ in urban centers
must be effectively reached and equipped for evangelism.
This recognition stands confirmed by God’s Word which
reflects His concern for cities. The strategy of Apostle
Paul of reaching urban centers resulted in the spread of
the Gospel and establishment of a vibrant Church in the
then known world.
We therefore, resolve to empower market place leaders,
through high-level seminars, to enable them to effectively
evangelize the market place and impact their churches to
be vibrant witnessing communities.

Consequently we declare our commitment to:
- Identify strategic urban centers in the country which
need immediate focused HI initiatives;
- Identify strong and effective churches in such urban
centers and work through them;
- Encourage alumni associations to take ownership of key
urban centers in their respective areas;
- Identify and effectively involve key HI alumni in such
urban centers;
- Encourage mega cities to have more than one alumni association;
- Upgrade the quality of HI seminars.
While, national seminars with upgraded parameters will ensure
that all sections of qualified leadership are adequately equipped
for evangelism, the Special Leadership Seminar (SLS) with
upgraded parameters will be the primary vehicle to equip ‘top-level
market place leaders’ in urban centers.
To proactively motivate and challenge alumni and alumni associations
to achieve these objectives in a time-bound manner.
To undertake total quality enhancement measures in respect
of the staff to enable their total well-being and to achieve
the ministry’s God given direction.
The Summit concluded with the realization that we have a
great and urgent task to impact India with the Gospel of our
Lord Jesus Christ and we believe that this Summit will result
in HI India fulfilling God’s mandate.
