| A brief report on the H.I. Leadership
Seminar, Jowai, Meghalaya
The Vision
Meghalaya is known as the Scotland of the east. Its beauty
and serenity is second to none. The Gospel of Jesus Christ
came to Meghalaya in the early part of the 19th century and
today about 70% of the population is Christian. The Church
in Meghalaya is well established and organized one. Though
the H.I. has been operating in the state since 1990 and several
seminars have been conducted in the past, no seminar could
be materialised in Jaintia Hills district. In other words,
the Jaintia Hills District is the last in the State of Meghalaya
to be covered by an HI Seminar. It is a milestone seminar
towards HI India’s dream of covering all the districts
in the country by HI seminars. The H.I. Alumni of Shillong
strongly felt the need of an H.I. seminar in Jowai and that
was the genesis of this seminar.
The Team
The HIAA, Shillong, assisted by H.I. Alumni of Jowai, namely
Dr. Bishar Plain, Doricia Pariat, K. Syngkon and Muani Darnei
finally organized an area seminar for the TOP leaders of the
district. Twenty-Eight participants from Jowai, the District
Headquarter of Jaintia Hills, and its suburb areas attended
the Christian Leadership Seminar held at CNI, Conference Hall,
Lawmusiang, Jowai, Meghalaya, from 27th –29th October
2005.
Fr. Devasia, Joben Roy Myrboh, Eladbor Laloo, Pearly Marak
& K. Hrishikesh Singh facilitated in the seminar as resource
persons and Dr.Bishar Plain & Pochister Kharkongor anchored
the seminar.
The Secret
The Seminar was excellent in all respect. The participants
were greatly blessed with all the sessions. The seminar was
a ‘dream come true’ for the organisers.
Five years of prayers, patience and devotion finally yielded
the fruit of hard labour. Praise God for all He had done !
Feedback of the participants:
- “Provided a spiritual direction and equipped us
with skills for evangelism and a refreshing perspective
on the issues of family and home. Three things clarified
- (a). Tithes- i.e. 1/10 does not only mean material tithes,
but also in terms of time for God, e.g. 1/10 of 24 hours
i.e. 2 hrs. 24. minutes. (b). One should attempt something
so great that it would fail, unless God helps us. (c). All
of us can be leaders. Jowai needs more such seminars to
refresh and provide focus and direction in our hectic lives”.-
Mr. Frederick Roy Kharkongor, IAS - Deputy Commissioner
Jaintia Hills, Jowai
- “Realised the need for qualities in Christian leadership.
As Christian leaders the need for managing family and time.
Three things clarified- (a). The need of the power of the
Holy Spirit in Evangelism. (b). The importance of family
as a unit for the support of “Christian Leaders”.
(c). Time management even spiritually.”- Mr.
Heimonlang Nongpluh, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Jaintia
Hills, Jowai
- “The full meaning of ‘Leadership’ is
clearly understood. ‘The Leader and the Home’
is a challenging session as a leader. ‘Stewardship’
is also very challenging and have to work it out as explained.
3 things clarified- (a). On excellent leadership, excellent
stewardship and excellent leader and the home. (b). New
technique to teach, more illustration to use and I realise
through the seminar that I need an extra mile or stretch
so that I can teach others. (c). Goal setting is excellent,
but I need to put in more practise for myself first.”-Dr.
J. N. Shullai, Private Practitioner, Jowai
